Hey- I want to weigh in with a comment about how human diet affects the world. It seems to be beyond a doubt that the biggest difference that the ordinary person can make regarding the environment, pollution, etc, is by changing their diet. Animal agriculture takes up an enormous amount of the planet’s surface (~30%, compared to ~10% used to support humans directly)- so much so that the forests of the world are being rapidly deforested to make more room to grow food to feed to other animals that are in turn fed to humans. As far as discussion goes concerning climate, diet seems to be the elephant in to room that nobody wants to talk about- the more research that one puts into it the more it becomes clear that animal agriculture is the most major source of practically all of the world’s most pressing matters. It’s easy to cast a vote- however, changing ones diet requires far more of a commitment from someone. By merely removing flesh from one’s diet they are making an enormous difference in terms of ecology. I also urge others to see the ethical dilemma in exploiting animals for food- if we wish to sincerely value our life and experiences then we should see the value in the life and experiences of others, and make veganism a pursuit of ours, and where we can not overcome our challenges we should feel remorse at the very least for the slaves of the industry who have their lives and their dignity taken away from them.
