Form a Congregational Partnership with a Frontlines Organization
Connect with a community in your area that is affected by climate change.
Connect (or deepen existing connections) between your congregation and communities in your area that are at the frontlines of climate change. Build relationships and find out how your congregation can be of service.
Take the time to explore existing relationships between your congregation's members and frontlines communities in your area, being particularly aware of those within your congregation who are, or whose families are, disproportionately impacted by climate change, environmental degradation, and other harmful byproducts of the fossil fuels industry.
Deepen your congregation's understanding of the disproportionate impacts of climate change and all of the byproducts of the practices that are contributing to it, and build relationships with organizations and groups being led by frontlines communities. Find out how your congregation can help.
You can also find potential partners through networks such as:
- Climate Justice Alliance (CJA Our Power Campaign)
- NAACP (NAACP Climate Justice Initiative)
- New Economy Coalition
- Interfaith Power & Light
- Local Congregation-Based Community Organizing (CBCO) networks such as DART (The Dart Center), Gamaliel, Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), InterValley Project and PICO. (Learn more about CBCOs, including funding for dues and training.)
Unitarian Universalist congregations can gain more resources for partnership under "Step 3: Be In Partnership" on the Unitarian Universalist Association's Congregations Take Action resource page.
