Dear Friend,
In a few short hours thousands of Unitarian Universalists gathered in Portland, Oregon, will join together with other people of faith and conscience, regional activists, and Indigenous partners for a powerful event to bear witness to the struggles of front-line communities (particularly First Nations), take a moral stand against climate change and the fossil fuels industry, and call for climate justice.
Don't miss this powerful event, happening TODAY at 4:45pm Pacific / 7:45pm Eastern
- Attend in person: Come to the Oregon Convention Center (Hall CD) in Portland, Oregon
- Livestream the entire event from anywhere with an Internet connection
- Join the Facebook event to get up-to-the-minute updates and invite your friends
- Take action: Find out six ways to take action in solidarity with Lummi Nation and other front-lines groups
Attendees will hear from Lummi Nation Councilman and treaty rights activist Jay Julius, Lummi Elder, international climate justice activist, and totem pole carver Jewell Praying Wolf James, and President of the Unitarian Universalist Association Rev. Peter Morales.
Music, spoken word, and drumming will be provided by Chinook Vice Chair Sam Robinson and other Citizens of the Chinook Indian Nation of Oregon and Washington; singer, songwriter, and activist Dana Lyons; and Aji James, founder of Earth Guardians Seattle.
Together all those gathered will bear witness to the story, struggle, and wisdom of our Indigenous siblings, and then co-create a ceremony of sending blessings to the four directions and making spiritual commitments to climate justice and solidarity.
Attendees, both in person and online, will be asked to take this event home by taking action in solidarity with Lummi Nation. Check out six ways you can take action and stand on the side of love with Lummi Nation and other communities at the front-lines of climate change and environmental destruction.
See you today!
In faith,
Your fellow Commit2Respond leaders
