Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Commit to reducing your congregation's carbon footprint by 20% in two years

Pledge to reduce your congregation's carbon footprint. There are many possible ways to meet this goal, including:

  • Using energy from renewable sources like wind, hydro, and electric power, rather than fossil fuels like oil and gas.

  • Reducing carbon pollution from all church-related activities: buildings, events, and transportation to church activities.

  • Leveraging the power of the congregation as a whole to support individual members reducing their dependence on fossil fuels.

  • Exploring ways to utilize your congregation to benefit your larger community in shifting to a low carbon future.

  • And more! Choose the solutions that make the most sense for your congregation and help you reach your goal.

These tools can help your congregation measure your current carbon footprint and plan two-year actions as an important start toward carbon neutrality by 2050:

    A group of us have are working with church leaders on these projects:

    1) plan for increasing efficiency of buildings, by changing lights, weatherizing;

    2) installation of solar roof on our “Care Building”: we have quotes from two different solar installers, but will probably have to await changing of NC law on 3rd party financing; for now this is in limbo.
