I am a minister of a small congregation in Joliet, IL. The congregation is entering a process of commitment to do what they can to stoop global warming, depletion of water. We want to become a go-to congregation on this issue in our community. We have a "Blue Marble" flag and it will go on a flagpole in front of our building, which is on a busy streeet int our city. Our Easter service is centered on water as the foundation of life. The children will be taking a collection for the water projects of the UUA and UUSC in blue buckets on Eater to kick off ur commitment.

My congregation FUUSB sent over 100 members to the People's Climate March in September 2014. I went with my three children. In December 2014, I went to the UN COP in Lima, Peru with my husband (and kids). I joined the march, and I joined a protest called it is not your negotiation #NoEsSuNegocio. And, more.... I am working with several permaculture groups. Permaculture offers 1,001 solutions to climate change.

Our congregation has taken the first steps in becoming a Green Sanctuary. My family has torn out our front lawn and replaced it with drought tolerant, low water usage plants. I have stopped using my automobile for trips under 20 miles (round trip) and ride a bike instead.

I am looking at enviromental justice through an anti-racism, capitalism-critical lense. As a UU, I feel that it is part of my spiritual reaponsibility to be involved in analyzing and moving away from cultural consumption of non renewable resources, and towards a sustainable model, with an inclusive/contentious focus, rather than competitive/individualistic focus.
